A week after Anna was killed, the building's Super finally suspects something awry and enters the apartment to check the strong pungent smell and increase in cockroaches in the building, which seem to be coming from Anna's apartment. As soon as he opens the door, he's confronted to a horrific vision of Anna's body which had been decomposing slowly over the past week during an unseasonal heat wave that plagued New York City. The entire apartment is infested and death had extended its reach to rot everything that used to be alive, from some flowers Anna had bought the morning she was killed, all the way to her cat who died of food poisoning after having fed on Anna's flesh.

Just a few minutes before 4PM, the Super calls in the Police and Josie Tagliani, a top NYPD Detective is assigned to the case. This all happened on Friday May 14th 2004.
