To paraphrase the now famous Mastercard commercial... 5 weeks of auditions, 120 people, 265 samples: $100, the cost of the iPod adapter i used and the binaural microphones. Having completed my first casting, priceless.
I can't thank enough all the people who have come to my place to audition. It was a rare experience and allowed me to meet many cool people. I saw 120 of you in total. And then, 25 canceled with a proper email to me, 24 never showed up or canceled on the same day (some had valid excuses, but many were just plain unprofessional), and 34 people never responded in the first place.
Over those 5 weeks, i probably spent 100 hours on this casting if you count the 30mn i spent with everybody, the people who never showed up but still cost me time, the few hours writing the software for managing the auditions on this web site, and finally, converting and uploading all the audition files. I loved it all, but i am glad it's over.
81 women came (over 66% of the auditions). This prompted me to audition some women for roles i initially wrote for men. I'll definitely have more women in the next story i do. Seems the actor demographics in New York city are skewed that way. Also, you can see below the details for each character: Karyn was by far the most requested part, so i'll have to make that young women in that future story.
